GOD IS PATIENT

In the beginning, the elohim created skies and earth.

Welcome back. Let's think about God as patient.
On the one hand, we now know that billions of years passed before the natural world brought about creatures who can think and talk. From our perspective, that is a long time to wait.

Of course, God is not a Supreme Being who sits around waiting for evolution to make humans for him. God is being itself. Natural law moves and has its being in God.
To say, “God is patient,” is to personify God. It is ascribing to our God of love a certain human attribute. There’s nothing wrong with that. It really is the only way to talk about God; otherwise, we say nothing at all about God…and just be.

That’s okay too.
Ancient people imagined God sending natural disasters to punish mortals for their wickedness. God was a jealous God, a wrathful God, and a murderous God.

Just read Jonathan Edward’s sermon “Sinners in the Hands of An Angry God” to get an idea of an imagining of an impatient, abhorrent God.

Thank God, because of Jesus, we imagine God differently. We imagine God willing to make us and shape us for an eternity so that we might truly be more like God.

An eternity is a lot longer than evolution.

Blessings…
